I went to Myeong-dong Cathedral on a Sunday afternoon. It's a Gothic Cathedral (yes, they have relics!), designed by French missionaries and built by Chinese laborers. It's also historically been a very important place in Korea's democratization.

I felt strangely out of place here, even though I was expecting to be in my comfort zone. The only place I visited in Seoul that made me more acutely aware of the fact that I was an outsider was the racetrack. But the vibe was friendly and very social; everyone was giving each other flowers after mass.

Jade crucifix, anyone?
